Summary
The primary responsibilities of the Underwriter include reviewing mortgage files submitted to underwriting. The role involves calculating income, analyzing debt and assets, and conducting an in-depth review of appraisals and titles. Additional tasks include data entry into the client’s loan operating system, manual underwriting, clearing conditions for final approval, and communicating outstanding requirements to customers.
The ideal candidate must possess a strong sense of urgency, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards and superior customer service.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintain conforming signing authority and quality standards.
- Stay updated on client and investor requirements.
- Perform a detailed review of mortgage loan files, including income (e.g., rental, IRA, annuity, 401K), assets, credit, and collateral.
- Enter accurate data into the client’s loan operating system.
- Ensure loan documents are accurate, complete, and compliant.
- Manually underwrite loans per client guidelines.
- Restructure non-conforming loans to meet conforming loan limits.
- Conduct POA reviews and identify/clear red flags.
- Issue loan decisions and condition files accordingly.
- Approve conditions for compliance and complete loan file reviews.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
- Assist processors/loan officers in understanding underwriting decisions and conditions.
- Resolve pre and post-closing underwriting issues.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 1.5 years in US mortgage underwriting, with live underwriting experience.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in income calculations, tax returns, and credit report analysis.
- Strong knowledge of appraisals and titles, including recognizing red flags and ineligible properties.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong time management abilities.
- Environment: Ability to work in a high-stress, production-oriented setting while delivering exceptional customer service.
- Teamwork: Must be willing to work collaboratively as part of a team.

- Range: ₹1,00,000 to ₹6,00,000 Per Annum
